It had been a stressful few weeks, and I really needed a bit of a break. Bri was out of town, but I decided to have a hike anyway. I drove to Davis Mountains State Park, and even though it was winter, I looked forward to some peace and quiet, and getting a healthy dose of nature. When I arrived, the temperature was about 25 degrees, but I had brought the proper clothing, so I was fine with that. I decided to hike the Old CCC Trail, which is a little over a mile and a half long one way. Access to this trail begins near a Scenic Overlook at the easternmost edge of the park. The trail is moderate, and for quite a while goes alongside the highway that leads up to the park entrance. Even with the highway so close by, the hike is a quiet one, though. It was especially quiet on a cold February morning–I didn’t see another person the entire time I was hiking. This is a very easy trail to follow–it is well marked anywhere that it intersects with another trail. The trail leads into one of the park’s campgrounds, which is where I turned around and headed back. It was not a very long hike, but since it was a Sunday and I had school the next day, that’s all I had time for.

Before I left the park, I stopped at the bird blind. This is a great spot to while away some time while you’re in the park. You can sit inside the shelter, and see all manner of birds as they come to the various feeders. It’s a very relaxing place to spend a few minutes, or a few hours. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who visits. And, as a bonus, it’s shelter from the weather, whatever that may be.

The trail is pretty flat most of the way.
